License Activation

After purchasing on the Pricing page, Lemon Squeezy emails you a license key. Open ResearchPLS, go to Settings > License, and enter that key exactly as it arrived. ResearchPLS generates a private device key that never leaves your computer, and asks our license server to activate this device against your license.

A ResearchPLS license covers one user on one active device at a time. If you try to activate a second device, you'll see a clear message that the license is already in use -- deactivate the current device first (Settings > License > Deactivate) to free it up for a new one.

As long as your subscription renews successfully, the same license key keeps working year after year -- you won't need to re-enter it. If you let a subscription lapse and later purchase again, Lemon Squeezy issues a new key, and you'd activate with that one instead. A license granted directly by ResearchPLS support (rather than through a Lemon Squeezy purchase) activates the exact same way, using the key from that confirmation email.

Once activated, the server issues a cryptographically signed entitlement that ResearchPLS stores securely and verifies locally -- this is what lets the application keep working normally through a reasonable offline period (a configurable grace window) without needing to reach the license server for every launch. It re-verifies online periodically, and whenever your subscription status changes (e.g. a renewal or cancellation).
